What is webhosting?
A web hosting service is a type of internet hosting service provider that allows individuals and organisations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server that are leased for use by clients, as well as providing Internet connectivity and typically in a data centre. An ongoing annual fee is required.
What is the difference between Shared Hosting and VPS Hosting?
Shared Hosting means your site will share the same server as many other sites. It’s usually the cheapest option but comes with limited bandwidth, administration, and performance capabilities as you are sharing resources with other sites. This means that if another site has issues, it can spill over to your site (though good shared hosts will try to mitigate this). Furthermore, you can’t customise your server in any way and the security risks are greater than with other types of hosting because infections can spread if your host doesn’t have proper isolation.
VPS Hosting is a more premium option, with the ability for greater customization, increased performance and security. With a VPS plan, you still share a physical server with other users. However, you get your own virtual environment that’s isolated from everyone else. So instead of sharing your server’s resources, you now have a slice that’s all your own.
